Oregon Adds Austin Tamagno To Stacked Recruiting Class

No. 2 Austin Tamagno joins the University of Oregon's recruiting class less than 24 hours after the Ducks nab No. 1 ranked Drew Hunter. He made his announcement via a Twitter post on Friday evening.

Tamagno, the defending California state cross country champion, is likely one of the few harriers in the nation able to challenge Hunter at the Foot Locker Nationals in December. Hunter is the top returner to Balboa Park, where he took fourth (15:14) last year, while Tamagno is the second-rated returner after placing fifth (15:15) last year.

The Brea Olinda, Calif. senior chose the Ducks over Syracuse, Cal and Oklahoma State. Tamagno is also the defending California state 1600m champion and the nation's top returner for 1500m (3:46.94). He is the No. 2 returner for the Mile (4:06.26) behind Hunter (4:02.36).

The University of Oregon also signed Levi Thomet yesterday, a 2014 graduate of Kodak High School in Alaska. Thomet is spending the 2015-2016 school studying and training abroad in Germany. He plans to race again in the Netherlands in December.
