Top Vaulters Meet in Texas this Weekend

Many of the nation's top pole vaulters, including top returning girl Shade Weygandt (Mansfield, TX), face off this weekend at the third annual Club Altius Season's Greeter in Texas.  This early season test pits numerous U.S. ranked vaulters together in an early season match-up.

Top High School Vaulters to meet in Forney

  The nation's top high school pole vaulters will open their season this weekend at the Club Altius Season's Greeter at Forney High School in Forney, Texas.  Seven state champions from Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma will open their seasons on Saturday, December 15, at the all day indoor pole vaulting festival that will feature two pits and competitions for all ages and abilities.

  Shade Weygandt (Jr., Mansfield, TX) will lead the way for a loaded girls field that features seven of the top ranked returning high school pole vaulters.  Texas State Champions Weygandt and Jessica Doyle (Sr.) from Hays H.S. in Buda, will face Arkansas State Champions Stephanie Forman (Sr., Lake Hamilton, AR) and Staci Yahn (Sr., Mena, AR).  Weygandt holds the national sophomore record with a best of 13-7 and has her eyes set on the national high school record of 14-2 1/2 currently held by Tori Anthony of California.  Weygandt is the top returning prep pole vaulter in the country.  Senior Stephanie Foreman has a best of 13-2 and is the fourth best returning prep vaulter.

  2007 Texas 3A State Champion Blaine Bassler (Sr., West, TX) is the favorite in a boys field that features 15 boys with personal bests of 15 feet or better.  Bassler has a personal best of 16-4 and is the sixth best returning prep vaulter in the country.  He will be challenged by Jack Whitt (Jr.) of Norman, Oklahoma and Jason Pelletier (Sr.) of Bryant, Arkansas, who were both state champions last year.
