Conner Mantz runs downhill mile in 3:51 tracking his elevation drop with his Garmin watch
Many high school boys dream of breaking 4:00 in the mile. Repping his "Dream Mile" jersey from this past June, some might say the dream came true for Conner Mantz as he busted out a 3:51 downhill mile just over a week ago.
The recent Sky View, Utah graduate responds to his downhill road mile in his final running log entrybefore heading to Ghana for his two-year Mormon mission: "It was a fun run and the pace is a bit inaccurate, and the distance is about .05 or something off. Anyway, I still don't consider myself a sub-4 guy until I do it on a track." He goes on to say, "it was more of a fun thing that was just to see what would happen, it isn't very official."
It certainly is not official and his name won't go down in a single record book, but we tip our hats to Mantz for a great high school career that includes numerous All-American performances (Foot Locker '12 - 12th, FL '13 - 7th, FL '14 - 10th and New Balance Nationals Indoor '14 - 1st) and putting in a hard effort in during this 3:51 downhill mile days before temporarily hanging up the spikes for the next few years. After his mission in Ghana, Mantz will attend BYU in 2017.
