New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship Sunday Results/Recap

Girls Quick Takes

  • Girls 60m Dash - Teahna Daniels (First Academy, FL) made it no secret why she is the nation's top-ranked short sprinter as she cruised through her semi-final in 7.37 before setting a new US #1 mark and personal record 7.33 in the finals. Fellow pre-race favorite Brenessa Thompson pulled up short in the semi-finals clutching her hamstring, though she still advanced as the No. 4 qualifier in 7.45. The Medgar Evers (NY) senior did not race the finals. Cassondra Hall (Northside, GA) ran US #2 7.37 for runner-up.
  • Girls 200m - US #1 and National Sophomore Class Record Holder Lauren Rain Williams (Oaks Christian, CA) won in a new Meet Record 23.46. Symone Darius (Mount Vernon, NY) became just the second girl to break 24 seconds this season in a runner-up 23.99 finish.
  • Girls 400m - 600m National Record Holder Kamryn McIntosh (Suffern, NY) finished out an impressive weekend on the track with her first individual national title. The sophomore ran 54.47 to edge Layla White (Cary, NC) and Lauryn Ghee (Grassfield, VA). She ran US #2 54.09 in the prelims.
  • Girls 800m - In a run reminiscent of her anchor leg on the National Record SMR yesterday, sophomore Sammy Watson (Rush-Henrietta, NY) threw down in the final 150m to win her first national title in a US #1 2:08.13. The mark is an indoor open 800m personal best for Watson, though she split about 2:06 on her SMR leg. The top four girls all broke 2:09, as Ersula Farrow (Oak Park, MI) was runner-up in US #2 2:08.38, Kaley Ciluffo (Pleasant Valley, IA) took third in US #3 2:08.83 and Sarah Walker was fourth in 2:08.97.
  • Girls Mile - Dani Jones (Desert Vista, AZ) started off the Mile hot in winning the slow section with a 4:44.90 Mile. The senior does not race indoors and though she recorded a 4:43 best during last outdoor season, did not make the seeded final. Jones stood in the infield to watch as Stephanie Jenks (Linn-Mar, IA) took early control of the race with a 69-second first lap. But all too soon, pre-race favorite and US #1 Ryen Frazier (Ravenscroft, NC) took the lead - just an hour after her Two Mile Championship run. Frazier, Jenks and sophomore Nevada Mareno (Leesville Road, NC) separated themselves from the pack with Rachel Dadamio (Birmingham Seaholm, MI) just behind. But as Frazier tried to gap her competition, Mareno hung on and in the final 100m, powered past the pre-race favorite for a US #2 4:43.23 to set the National Sophomore Class Record. Frazier hung on for runner-up honors in 4:44.48 as Jones' time was good for third overall. Dadmio was fourth in 4:49.66 and Jenks was fifth in 4:49.7.
  • Girls Two Mile - Ryen Frazier (Ravenscroft, NC) returned to the track a day and a half after her narrow 5k loss to Anna Rohrer, where she ran US #3 All-Time 16:12.81, with something to prove. The senior took the pace out hard and ran a solo US #3 All-Time 10:02.86.
  • Girls 60mH - Sydney McLaughlin (Union Catholic, NJ) ran US #3 All-Time and set the National Sophomore Class Record in 8.17 as Anna Cockrell (Providence Day, NC) ran US #5 All-Time 8.21.
  • Girls 4x200m Relay - Parkland, NC followed up their US #1 1:37.75 in the prelims and followed that with a 1:38.10 win in the finals. Despite losing US #1 55m sprinter Brenessa Thompson to a hamstring pull, pre-meet favorite Medgar Evers (NY) took runner-up honors in 1:38.72.
  • Girls 4x400m Relay - Oak Park, MI edged pre-meet nation leader Cardozo, 3:42.72 to 3:42.82 to set a new US #1 mark. The times stand as US #7 and US #8 All-Time. Johnyce Powell (56.55), Ersula Farrow (55.77), Dorriann Coleman (56.10) and Anna Jefferson (54.30) represented Oak Park as Motor City TC.
  • Girls Junior High Mile - 12-year-old 7th-grader Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland, NY) set the Meet Record with a 4:59.93 effort to win by 15 seconds.
  • Girls Pole Vault - Kristen Denk (North Royalton, OH) won in a new US #3 13-8.5.
  • Girls Triple Jump - Texas commit Asa Garcia (Texas City, TX) jumped US #5 All-Time 43-2.25 for a new Meet Record.
  • Girls Weight Throw - Sabrina Gaitan set a new US #1 mark with her 60-10 throw.
