10/25 High School XC Weekend Recap

Indiana Semi-State Championships (IN)

In their first head to head of the season, the US #3 Carmel girls put the US #10 Avon girls in their place as far as Carmel remaining the top team in Indiana with a 40-72 pt win at their sem-state meet including 4 girls under 19 minutes for 5K and among top 11 places. Avon will look to close the 32 point gap which existed at the state meet, but will need their best race of the season in order to knock off the Carmel girls and end their streak of Indiana state titles.

The US #21 Carmel boys won their last meet before the state meet as well while getting their #1 runner Ben Veatch back after skipping a few races lately and he won in a swift time of 15:10 and significant margin of 20 seconds over Zac Snider. The US #22 West Lafayette boys will be Carmel's toughest test next week and they breezed through their semi-state meet led by race winner Cooper Williams and 5 guys in the top 12.

US #4 Anna Rohrer continues to drop her time in each race coming back from injury including a 17:34 season best win at her semi-state meet. The 2012 Foot Locker Nationals champ and last spring's New Balance Nationals Outdoor 5K champion started her season late after another injury scare forced her to cross country over the summer and early fall. She clearly seems to be getting her feet under each week of training and another race as the Mishawaka (IN) senior aims to be ready to make a return trip to Foot Locker Nationals after being unable to defend her crown due to injury last year. At this race of time improvement, we could see Rohrer definitely in the 16 minute range shape by December at Balboa Park.
