US #1's from Nizich (222-9 Javelin) & Efraimson (4:21 1500) at Friday's Jesuit Twilight

At Friday's Jesuit Twilight Relays in Portland, Oregon, two US #1 performances were achieved by John Nizich of Central Catholic (OR) and Alexa Efraimson of Camas (WA). Nizich improved upon his US leading mark in javelin and proved his last breakthrow throw as no fluke as he extended out his personal best and current US #1 mark to a distance of 222'9". Meanwhile, Alexa Efraimson ran her first 1500 of the season, which plans on running plenty hopefully at Hayward Field in July for the World Junior Trials and Championships.

Without any real competition to challenge her, Efraimson put a remarkable 24 seconds difference between her and the runner-up finish with a new US #1 1500 performance of 4:21.10. Efraimson is expected to hoping to run close to 4:10 later this season if not possibly flirting with a time under 4:10 in the right race for 1500 meters. Efraimson ran two 4:16's in the 1500 at the end of last outdoor season, while she was timed at 4:15 en route for her Millrose Games Mile back in February. Her current US #1 ranking in the 1500 may be short-lived with Elise Cranny looking to move up on the all-time list on Sunday at the Payton Jordan Invite (at Stanford University) against college and pro runners in the 1500.

Nizich was a third place finish in last year's Oregon State Meet in the javelin with a then PR throw of 200'9". He has only continued to build upon that state meet finish late last May and put together an impressive streak of meets to start his senior season of outdoor in the javelin. Nizich has gone undefeated so far and thrown over 200 feet in a total of 3 meets already with the best coming on Friday at the Jesuit Twilight Relays.
