Thursday – July 6th, 2006
Training: First DNF ever.
Day Mileage: 9 miles
Week Total: 18 miles
Where: Luzern
Weather: rainy, warm
Details: I'll just be honest and admit I almost sh.. my pants when I saw the start list to my 3k race on Thursday. Not necessarily just because of the names themselves, but also because the 3k is just not my distance with that kind of competition…competition who have already had Olympic experience!
Anyway, so race details… Ran the first 1600 and saw my split…I felt like utter crap and decided in the moment that it wasn't worth it to finish the race because I felt like finishing would be worse for my head than me actually quitting just because I didn't feel like I belonged there in the first place…That's how I felt at the time I crapped out…

Friday – July 7th, 2006
Training: 60 minutes
Day Mileage: 8 miles
Week Total: 26 miles
Where: Wolhusen
Weather: rainy and warm
Details: Ran with my sweetie in his hometown. Hilly, hilly, hilly.

Saturday – July 8th, 2006
Training: Travel to St. Moritz and then 30 minutes easy to get used to the elevation…
Day Mileage: 3.5 miles
Week Total: 29.5 miles
Where: St. Moritz, baby!
Weather: cool and breezy
Details: Preparing for training camp so we really backed down on the mileage this past week.

Training Camp
The idea of a training camp is the idea of having no other distractions besides just running and doing everything that has to do with running. It is difficult to have a strictly professional career in Switzerland because of the lack of support of athletics in general. Training camp is to train like a full pro where all focus is put on your sport. I am very excited to be here because so many other athletes will be up here training from all over the world…I am especially excited because a lot of people within Switzerland will be up here training too…including Ueli J !!!! Yaaay! Most of us are going directly from elevation to Swiss Championships so we'll see how that experience goes.

Sunday -- July 9th, 2006

10:30 AM: 49 minutes regular run pace
5 PM: 20 minutes and core strength, ABC's
Day Mileage: 7 am: 3 miles
10:30 AM: 7 miles
5 PM: 2.5 miles
12.5 miles
Week Total: 42 miles
Where: St. Moritz
Weather: Warm (70s), breezy, slightly cloudy.
Details: Easy runs today to get used to elevation…you know, to acclimatize.
If you want to run like a Kenyan…Do what Kenyans do…
And train three times in a day! Obviously not three times a day every day! It was rough getting up at 6:45 because I didn't sleep that great. I woke up at like 3 and was still awake at like 5am! Doh. When I got back from my morning run, I ate breakfast and then went back to bed until 10. My second training was at 10:30 and I went with Valerie, Stephen, Anita (W.), Arlette, and John around the Champfer Lake, which is gorgeous!!! I am truly enjoying every minute here! There are tons of pros running around from all over the world…Kenya, South Africa, Croatia etc… I am pumped for Saturday though because that is when most of the Swiss athletes come up here. There are already many up here, but a lot more people will be around after this week. We just came earlier to acclimatize smoothly without having to rush things.
