First real workout after my cold...Yeah, didn\'t go too well. I was wheezing and couldn\'t breath even though I had just split the same times I ran in the 400s today as I ran the 1000s last week.

Time once again for one of the showcase events on the indoor track and field calendar with the Virginia AAA state championships to be held March 3-4 at the George Mason University Fieldhouse in Fairfax, Va. Defending girls team champion Bethel will be looking for their third consecutive title, led by one of the nation\'s truly outstanding performers in senior Francena McCorory while defending boys indoor champion Deep Creek should also be in the mix once again as they try to fend off a group of challengers led by Great Bridge and E.C. Glass.
Miller vs Walker | Morrison vs Costello | Kauffman vs Heat 3 | Hannon vs 2nd placeCraig Miller obliterated the PA 3k all-time best. Jake Walker ran a PA#2 all-time mark. Problem was, it was in the same race. In the Mile, Sarah Morrison showed Liz Costello that she too, has a kick. But Costello came back to gut out a 3000 win. In the 800, it is rare for someone from the next-last heat win the race, but that\'s exactly what happened for a confident Aaron Kauffman. And Erin Hannon finally erased her 2nd place jinx in state meets by winning two titles.

Winning a race is not something many runners get to experience in their lifetime. I dare say that 99% of the runners who sardine their way into the starting area at a road race have no grandiose notion of breaking through the victory tape at the finish line.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 22, 2006) --- Atlee High School (Mechanicsville, Va.) senior Rebecca McDowell recently announced she\'ll run for the Lady Buffs of Milligan College next Fall.
Ryann Krais is ranked No. 1 in the state and among the elite nationally in the long jump, 400-meter dash and 60 hurdles. So that would make the Methacton High sophomore the favorite for each event heading into Saturday\'s PTFCA state championship meet. But there\'s no open 400 on her schedule this weekend.
As a freshmen at Hermitage High School, Alex Bowman showed promise as one of the state\'s future middle distance stars. As a sophomore, he made a huge breakthrough when he dropped down to 4:20 in the 1600 meter run. After a junior year riddle by injury and lack of significant progression in his times, Bowman has regained his step and is running faster than ever as shown by his state leading and personal best 1600 time of 4:17 at the Virginia Tech Invitational where he defeated many of the state\'s top runners. As he gears up for this weekend\'s Central Region Meet and following AAA State Meet, Bowman has a full steam of momentum on his side to win not only his first regional titles but a state title as well.
As I stood huddling in the athletes
Erin Hannon has won a US title, but never the state variety. She chould get at least two. Ryann Krais has a shot at two US sophomore class records, let alone two or three state titles. Liz Costello is atttempting the Mile-3000 double, with a 4x800 anchor as dessert... and could pull it off. And watch the battle between West Catholic and West Chester Henderson in the relays. It will be electric, and could decide the day.
So sorry for the late article, safe to say its ACC Championship time. Which also turns out to be,
My name is Chuck King. I am junior at James Island High School, and I finished my first journey in the most prestigious event in the world: the Marathon.
Carrington Queen could set a state record in winning the 60 Meter Hurdles. Simon Gratz has a shot at sweeping the relays. And can indoor state record holder Jake Walker hold off the challenge from a renewed Craig Miller in the 3000?
\"Mom, I went to sign up for softball and changed my mind a little. I\'m doing the Shot Put.\" So began the track & field career of Center HS thrower, current PA leader and US#2 Allyn Laughlin.
Alan Webb, Lashawn Merritt, and Sarah Bowman. These names represent the best of track and field athletes produced from the state of Virginia. Webb and Bowman had national records and national championships to their credentials, while Merritt was a national champion and World Juniors champion. The records they broke and championships they won created legacies within the state which will never let them be forgotten. Bethel senior Francena McCorory appears to be destined to elevate herself into the same elite class. With a reign of dominance over the state since her freshmen year with her first state title stretching to a virtually unbeaten streak that still is found today, McCorory has taken that dominance to the national level this year. With a national record in the 300 meter dash and a US #1 500 time under her belt this indoor season, McCorory is certainly setting herself up for a fine close to what has been one of the most impressive high school track careers in this state\'s history.
Day 2 was a very exciting day, ending with the 3A/4A state crowns being handed to Eleanor Roosevelt. Multiple state records were set, including a smoking 1:57.18 by Kelli Thibou of ER. Click on the link for an event by event recap of the meet and unofficial splits for all distance events!

Beaufort graduate Aulton Kohn (2003), a junior at Syracuse University, won his second consecutive BIG EAST 60-meter title.

Milligan senior All-American Chris Wright continued his strong indoor season with a national qualifier in the mile (4:22.74) and a victory in the 1000 meter run (2:38.75) at Liberty University\'s Last Chance Meet in Lynchburg, Va.
Susan Crowe, the mother of one of the top distance runners at State College High School, was killed Sunday, February 12th in a car accident in North Carolina. She was an icon of the Centre County running community. On Saturday, February 18th, her daughter Edel, raced in the Penn State Invitational, running 10:44.14 in the 3000, and helping her team\'s 4x800 run 9:50.11. There was a moment of silence in memory of Sue at the meet. Centre Daily Times sports writer Cecily Cairns writes about Sue in the February 19th edition of the paper.
Jeremy Longshore, a 2004 graduate of Broome High School captured the Atlantic Sun men\'s vault title with a best clearance of 16-00.75.
So you run on down to your local running shoe store and see that wall of running shoes, your vision blurs, your head pounds. You ask yourself:

Wooly Worms and Vampires! As is so often the case in life, my wife\'s 5k PR chase wasn\'t going according to script. After the Spruce Pine Calamity, it was time to regroup. As Natalie (aka Scat) put it, \"I\'m lower than a snake\'s belly.\" That\'s not exactly the optimum mental state for peak performances.
Carrington Queen had room to spare as he charged down the homestretch of Lehigh University\'s Rauch Fieldhouse indoor track en route to a personal best in the 200-meter dash on Saturday.
Junior Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Weekend Highlights:On Monday 2/6, Upper Darby\'s Rob McNally posted a PA-leading 1:55.9 at the Armory in NY. On Wednesday, Penn Trafford\'s Diana Filtz runs a PA#3 10:20.9 3000. The top three Hempfield throwers had great nights. Despite the threat of snow on Saturday, nearly 80 schools of the registered 115 descended on Lehigh for the first of a series of what are annually PA\'s best indoor meets. Fans were not disappointed, as two throwers known as Laughlin and Shump, one from the west and one from the east, grabbed the 1st and 3rd spots on the national charts, while two others took over the #2 spots in their events. And there was more. Much more...like the meet record in the 60 Hurdles and LJ win in an action-packed \'gotta compete and leave\' hour by Methacton\'s Ryann Krais... or the two come-from-behind relay wins by Easton\'s Chanelle Price (in PennTrackXC.com photo) to go with her US#2 in the 800... Plus double wins by Whitney Matthews of Mercersburg Academy at the MAPL Champs... PTFCA CARNIVAL SELECT PIX, RACE SUMMARY AND PHOTO GALLERY NOW POSTED.

Running in the famous \"Pit\" at Virginia Military Institute Judy had a very successful meet. In all she won two events (200 and 400) and placed second in two (triple jump and 55m dash). Her 55 time of 7.37 was only 4/100ths out of first but surpassed the NAIA indoor national qualifying standard.
