Throwback Thursday: Reese Vannerson Wins State With A Kick

Last year we saw history made in the boys Class 6A division at the UIL Texas Outdoor State Championships in Austin.

Today, we are looking back at Houston Strake Jesuit distance standout Reese Vannerson, a 2023 graduate

The senior would go on to win two state titles in 2023 after finishing second in the 3,200m in 2022.

It was Vannerson's 3,200m win that rewrote history.

After a huge performance of 8:49.10, Vannerson clocked a new UIL Texas state meet record and the No. 2 all-time mark by a Texan, though his time would also be the fastest time ever run on Texas soil for the event.

He went on to double in the 1,600m, taking the crown in 4:08.08 and bringing home a historic performance.

Vannerson now competes professionally as a triathlete for team USA Project Podium, an Olympic development squad and attends Arizona State University.

The 2024 UIL State Championships begin today out in Austin. Make sure to tune in and watch the meet live on FloTrack below.
