Southern Durham (NC) High junior Khaleb McRae ran a new U.S. No. 1 time of 1:04.62 in the 500m dash on Saturday at the Champion Fast Track High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track facility.
McRae's time bests the old U.S. No. 1 by 0.35 seconds, previously held by fellow North Carolina athlete Randolph Ross from Garner. Ross now sits at U.S. No. 2, with Tar Heel state controlling the top two spots in the boys 500m rankings.

Better yet, McRae and Ross will be racing against each other Jan. 19-20 at the VA Showcase in Lynchburg. That race will also see Miami Norland (FL) High junior Tyrese Cooper chase the national record in the 500m and try to run under 60 seconds after finishing in 1:01.88 at last year's VA Showcase.
We also can't forget about current US No. 1 in the 400m, Brian Herron, a junior from Decatur, Georgia who will also be in the mix.
