4. Mondo Duplantis nearly sets Age 16 World Record
Armand "Mondo" Duplantis of Lafayette, La. broke his own National Sophomore Class Indoor Record in the pole vault with a 17-6 clearance.
A national record is exciting enough for most athletes, but Mondo -- who owns the Age Group World Records for 7-, 8-, 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year olds -- was going for the Age 16 World Record at the Reno Pole Vault Summit on Saturday.
He made three strong attempts at 17-10, but left with the 17-6 clearance. The mark stands as an all-time PR as it breaks his prior best of 17-4.75, which he cleared to win the IAAF World Youth Championships last summer.
