National Weekend Rundown: 7 Things To Know

3. Tyrese Cooper takes back Fastest Freshman designation with 200m/400m National Class Records

It's only January, but one of the most intriguing rivalries of the year has already emerged: Who is the fastest freshman in the nation?

Tyrese Cooper made a big statement on Saturday at the Arkansas High School Invitational, where he posted National Freshman Class Indoor Records in the 200m (21.54) and 400m (47.97). Unfortunately, he chose not to compete in the finals for either event; the 200m finals featured U.S. No. 2 and No. 3 ranked Keshun Reed of Texas and Willie Allen of Kentucky.

Even still -- Cooper's run in the 400m broke the national class record of 48.76 set just three weeks ago by Brian Herron of Georiga.

Cooper now ranks No. 5 in the 400m amongst all high schoolers. Herron ranks No. 12.
