1. Noah Lyles (VA) - Boys 100m & 200m Champion
Noah Lyles and Ryan Clark had two classic photo finish battles at New Balance Nationals Indoor back in March in splitting national titles in the 200 and 60 meter dash. There was no sharing of a title a piece this time around as the T.C. Williams (VA) junior Lyles took it all.
After being defeated decisively by Clark in the 100 meter dash in Cuba last weekend at the Caribbean Scholastic Invite, Lyles didn't necessarily get full revenge on him for that loss in the 100 at New Balance Nationals. Clark false started in the finals and left Lyles as suddenly the new event favorite, which he took advantage in rolling out a new lifetime best clocking of 10.21 for the win. Wind legal (+1.4) for Lyles as well to move him to US #2 in the event behind only the disqualified Clark (10.18).
The matchup which we unfortunately did not get to see in the 100 finals on Saturday came to fruition on Sunday in the 200 meter finals with Clark in the race against Lyles after posting the fastest time in the morning prelims. Clark got out quick in the first 100 meters, but Lyles closed on him late for the win and third national title. Quick times for both given running into a -1.0 headwind with Lyles at 20.54 for first and Clark at 20.58 for second place.
