The Prefontaine Classic high school girls' mile could be the best field to race the distance all year - including the adidas Dream Mile, to be held on June 13. Many of these ladies will see each other for the first time this spring, or the first time ever.

Jordyn Colter of Cherry Creek, Co. is enjoying a resurgent year and broke the state 800m record set by the tough Elise Cranny, now of Stanford. Colter's 2:04.56 is impressive on its own merits, but even more so upon considering that she races at an elevation of 5,000 feet. The Cal recruit is undefeated in the mile this year and won the Arcadia Invitational in what is still a nation-leading time of 4:45.24. She beat out several athletes in this field at that race, including fellow Coloradans Katie Rainsberger and Lauren Gregory, as well as Allie Schadler, who more recently cruised a solo 4:45.15 1600m to win the Arizona state meet.

Another Arizona state champion in the field is Dani Jones of Desert Vista, who nailed the 800-1600-3200 triple at the D1 Championship. The Colorado-bound senior is undefeated this outdoor season and won the high-profile Mt. SAC Relays 800 as well as the Arcadia Invitational 3200; Jones has range and will be dangerous.

Christina Aragon may not have the sub 2:10 800m credentials of some of her competitors, but she may boast the most outstanding personal record of the entire field. The Billings, Mont. junior ran the fifth-fastest 1500m time in history, 4:16.36, at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational versus collegiate and professional runners. She is also - surprise? - the reigning Montana state champion for 400m, with a personal best of 55.87.

Ryen Frazier of Ravenscroft, N.C. and Stephanie Jenks of Linn-Mar, Iowa are two consistent competitors at the national level who will contend for top honors. Frazier, the defending national outdoor champion for the mile, last raced during the first weekend of April with a 4:43.22 1600m. The NC State recruit is a gritty competitor and the long layover likely means she is chomping at the bit to race again.

Jenks is the nation-leader in the 1600m, per her 4:40.78 to win the Kansas Relays. The junior is a racing machine; she recently completed the 800/1500/300 triple crown at her state meet, while also racing to all-state honors in the 400m hurdles - but that's not even the first time she's done that this year. At Drake Relays, the nine-time All-American pulled off a similar feat. Is she over-raced or race-ready?
