What to Watch: 81st Eastern States Championship

Field

Eric Favors returns to the Eastern States Championship as the favorite in the Shot Put after finishing fifth last year.

  • Girls Long/Triple Jump - Can anyone stop the Sydney McLaughlin show? The Long Jump will likely be her closest contest of the meet, as the Union Catholic, NJ sophomore is tied for US #8 at 19-4 with Marie Josee Ebwea-Bile. The Cardozo athlete is the top seed in the Triple Jump at US #2 41-1.5, but will have Domonique Panton (US #4 40-4) breathing down her neck.
  • Boys High Jump - David Bradham of Williamstown, NJ will look to distinguish himself from the 8 preps who have cleared 6-10 this season to tie for US #5. The nation's top mark this season is Jaron Brooks at 7-1. The Meet Record is an insane 7-3, set by Greg Gonsalves back in 1981.
  • Girls High Jump - Hannah Taylor is in a similar situation as Bradham, as she is one of 10 girls currently tied for US #6 with a mark of 5-8. The Meet Record of 5-11, set by Emily Kianka in 2010, is more attainable than the current US #1 mark of 6-0 from Nicole Greene.
  • Boys Shot Put - The upper echelons of the Boys Shot Put are a whopping nearly four feet out of reach, but US #4 Eric Favors (63-10) has a realistic chance to propel himself to US #3, as he is just one inch behind Rasah Manning (Rivedale Baptist, MD).
  • Girls Shot Put - This contest will be a close one, as New Jersey stars Alyssa Wilson (Donovan Catholic) and Jessica Molina (Westwood) have both thrown for US #5 48-6.5 this year.
