Two US top 20 ranked runners clashed one of the fastest 5K courses in the country with Katie Rainsberger of Air Academy (CO) and Dani Jones of Desert Vista (AZ) at the Desert Twilight Classic on Friday night in Casa Grande, Arizona. They did not make it a strategic race and set a blistering pace from the gun with a 5:17 first mile split and 10:55 split at the two mile before Rainsberger finally was able to create separation from last year's meet champion Jones in the final 200 meters for a 16:41 win and Jones right on her heels in 16:42 for the third and fourth fastest 5K times in the country. Jones and the Desert Vista girls rolled to team victory with 5 finishers among the top 25 with 5K times ranging from 16:42 to 18:22.

Carlos Villarreal likes running on Friday nights. After running the fastest time of the day at the Woodbridge Classic two weeks ago on Friday, the Rio Rico senior blew by Corona del Sol's Marcus Wheeler in the final 100 meters at the Desert Twilight Classic for a swift nation's best 5K time of 14:49 on the always super fast Grande Spors Academy XC course in Arizona.
