2024 Council Bluffs City Meet   

Date:Thursday, April 25th 2024

Rain/Cold Date:No rain date due to Drake Relays

Start Time:Field Events - 3pm; Running Events - 3:30pm

Location:Gale Wickersham Athletic Complex, Gale Wickersham Stadium Bob Nielsen Track    

Competing Schools:Abraham Lincoln, Iowa School for the Deaf, Lewis Central, St. Albert, Thomas Jefferson and Heartland Christian

Admission:$7.00 - Adults/Students.  No Passes Accepted.  All Tickets need to be pre purchased on Bound or credit/debit card at the ticket gate.  Ticket gate will open for spectators at 1:30pm. Please do not arrive beforehand.

Entry Fee:Please send $120.00 per team ($240.00 per school with both girls/boys teams) to Activities Office, Abraham Lincoln High School, 1205 Bonham St, Council Bluffs, IA.  51503 

Team Buses:Please have all athletes and/or team buses use the 18th and Avenue G entrance and park in the bus lane in front of the Fred Maher Team building, or athletes driving can use Wilson MS parking lot.  The only gate open before 3pm will be the gate to the west of the team building, this is for workers, athletes and coaches only.

All Protest or Questions need to come to one of these three.

Facilities:The Bob Nielsen Track is a polyurethane all-weather surface on which only or smaller pyramid spikes.  No needle or Christmas tree spikes are allowed.  Coaches, please DO NOT allow athletes to place tape on the running surface.  Starting blocks will be furnished.  Team tents/camps must be set up outside the track oval on the south end of the track.  Shot put and discus have concrete surfaces.  High jump and long jump have the same surface as the track

Awards/Scoring:City Championship Trophy for top team finish, both Girls and Boys

Medals for Varsity Individual (1-5) & Relay (1-3) Events

Relays:10-8-6-4-2

Individual:  10-8-6-4-2-1

All events are timed finals, no prelims 

Field Events: 4 preliminary trials for all contestants in shot, discus, and long jump.  All ties in scoring will be decided by National Federation Rule Book Guidelines.  

Implements:Each school should provide their own legal implements for the shot, discus, and relay events.

Locker rooms:The home and visiting locker rooms will be available to athletes and coaches only during/after the meet.  The home locker room will be the boys and the visiting locker room will be the girls.

Timing:FAT FinishLynx timing for all races using the common finish line.  Each contestant will have to wear a hip number to identify them in the system.  

Uniform:IGHSAU, IHSAA rules will be enforced in regard to uniform and jewelry.

Contestant Entries:All contestants are limited to FOUR (4) Final Events 

  • TWO (2) entries per school in the relay events (Only one relay team per school will score/medal).  Top finishing relay will score.

  • Schools may enter unlimited participants in the individual events.  (Only three per team will score/medal in individual events).

COACHES, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:

The on-line entry system is linked in Varsity Bound.  Entities open on April 16th and close on April 26th at 8am.

  • Only scratches and relay participant substitutions at the meet.  

  • If you make a substitution in relay personnel after the cut off:

  1. Make sure the individual has not exceeded the meet entry limitation rule.

  2. Substitution form is given to Cyle Forney or Joel Nelson in the press box prior to the event. 

Field Event Workers:The following schools are in charge of the following areas/field events:

LC: Long Jump 

SA: Shot Put

TJ: Discus

AL: High Jump 

AL: Finish Line, Clerk of Start, Clerk of Finish, Announcer, Awards, Hytek and Finishlynx.

Other Information:  Only contestants in uniform, meet officials and coaches will be permitted on the track or in competition areas.  Parents/Spectators should not be inside the fence around the track.  Please remind your athletes to take time and give respect to the CB Relays Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for someday it may be them who receive the honor.  We always appreciate athletes of schools that deposit trash in the receptacles prior to leaving the stadium.

AthleticTrainer:An emergency tent will be supervised by a trainer from Jennie Edmundson Sports Medicine Team for attention to injuries and/or other medical needs.

Concessions:ALHS will run the concession stand, open at 3:30pm

Meet Results/Awards:Available at the conclusion of the meet in the officials room.  Please pick up the Award Packet and check contents for accuracy prior to your departure.  Results will be emailed to ADs and Coaches, you can also find all information, including results at https://www.milesplit.com/timing/1669/council-bluffs-community-school
