I was planning to play a slightly different game once all 4 state meets had taken place. It was going to be called the Region 1 game, in which the results of the 2A, 3A, and 4A Region 1 meets (as well as 1A Region 2, which is an honorary Region 1, since its schools comprise the same geographic areas (minus the panhandle) and help prove the point that schools from these areas absolutely dominate all others). Please don\'t take it personally, DadWalsh. It is only to serve the purpose of providing an argument for qualifying times.

Look at the Region 1 1600m times in 3A and compare them to every other region. Its disgusting.

The region is perfect for fast races. Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Gainesville all with a number of 3A schools loaded with talent. Go figure. What other region covers such a wide area?

Good luck. There were qualifying for finishers not in the top four but faster tahn a specific time/ distance for awhile. That went by the wayside.

I have been told by FHSAA that the board of directors is opposed to the idea as well as my idea for having athletes declare and adding athletes that way.

Actually, qualifying for individuals has not always been the top four from region. There have been a variety of qualifying methods used (including qualifying by districts for awhile). In the mid 90\'s a proposition to allow the 5th and/or 6th place finisher in a region to qualify if their time/effort was faster than a region winner, I believe, was passed by the track coaches. I think that it was used for either one or two years (if it got by the board of directors and because there were no such qualifiers (or would have been no such qualifiers?), it was quietly dropped. I was out of the state at the time so I cannot speak definitively on the subject. Perhaps Wolfpack or coach Finke can elucidate.

For accuracy sake, note that when Class 2A was the smallest of 5 classifications, that class used to qualify TWO from district to the state meet with no regionals.

This method ws also used in the 1980s for Class A and 2A aswll as for all classifications in at least the 1970s. At one time the number qualifying for a state meet was based upon the number of teams in your district as schools were not willing or able to travel large distances to get to a region meet.

I also think that Region 2A-2 has a pretty large region extending from Nease (above St. Augustine) to LPA (just above Miami). Which may account for why three of the region\'s two milers were prominent in the results at the state meet among other events.

It\'s not a bad idea but what would happen to the slower people who qualify for the next level?

Less qualifiers, more at-large.

It\'s quite simple.
