This season we've seen some strong times in the boys 200m but not quite as strong as the previous two years.

Top 200m Times By Year:
In 2017 and 2018, the last time to make the top 50 was 21.94. In the two years prior (2016 and 2015), the best times in the top 50 were only in the 22.00s. In 2019, the top 50 athletes have run better as a whole than the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons.

The last time to be ranked in the top 50 is currently at 22.03. With the end of the season approaching and some big meets still on the horizon, we will see if there are 50 athletes who can run faster than a 21.94 to give this year a stronger top 50 than 2017 and 2018.

Last Time In The Top 50:

  • 2019 - 22.03**
  • 2018 - 21.94
  • 2017 - 21.94
  • 2016 - 22.06
  • 2015 - 22.07

This season we've already seen seven guys run 21.50 or faster in the 200m. That number is already higher than in 2016, which only saw six athletes run 21.50 or faster. In 2017, a total of 12 athletes broke the 21.50 seconds mark, making it one of the best years at the distance.

The Number Of Athletes 21.50 Or Faster:

2019 - 7** (0 Athletes 21.00 Or Faster)
2018 - 9 (2)
2017 - 12 (0)
2016 - 6 (1)
2015 - 9 (2)

With a good amount of meets left in the season and the best ones just on the horizon, we will see how many athletes can continue to improve their times and help to improve 200m times in 2019 to make it an even stronger year than the previous ones.
