Alyssa Wilson after breaking the shot put national record throwing 57-5.5!
The current high school national record holder in the shot put, Toms River Donovan Catholic (NJ) High senior Alyssa Wilson, still has the chance to improve her mark of 57 feet, 5.5 inches this spring.
The UCLA signee is also just outside the all-time lists in the discus and hammer. Her toss of 175-1 in the discus puts her in the top 30 all-time and her throw of 191-2 in the hammer puts her just outside the top 10 all-time.
Elena Bruckner after qualifying for the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in two events!
Other former elite shot put throwers in high school, like Elena Bruckner and Anna Jelmini
of California, crack into the top 10 list all-time in both the shot put and the discus. Jelmini is No. 2 all- time and Bruckner is No. 4 all-time in the discus.
Two names on this top 10 list competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Michelle Carter won a gold medal, throwing 67-8.25, and NCAA Record Holder, Raven Saunders
, placed 5th with a toss of 63-5.75.
