January 6

Friday - January 6, 2006
Training: AM:70 minutes DLL and DL1 mixed
PM:30 minutes REALLY slow jog, 40 mins. exercise. Core strength and
arms…I am sore!
Day Mileage: about 13 miles
WEEK Mileage accumulated: about 60 miles (and still two days to go. Oh lord! Hah)
Where: I am not sure. I went on another exploration run and got lost…but then when I figured out where I was, I was back too early so I had to add on! Hah!
WEATHER: Cooollld. It was supposedly a high of 40 today, but with the wind it felt A LOT colder!!!
Quotes: In Switzerland, we say, Von nichts kommt nichts....This mean from nothing comes nothing...Which basically means, if you don't do anything, nothing will be accomplished.
Training Details: My morning run went pretty smoothly. I jogged most of it and only ran "regular run" pace for 20 minutes. Today was supposed to be slow on both runs because of our three workouts in one week, and because of my 80 mile week this week.

My Lovely Thuner Trio Training Pals
My Thuner Trio, Livia, Astrid and I had a little dinner together last night at Livia'y house to exchange Christmas presents! We all think the same!!! First of all, for Christmas, we are the BIGGEST dorks. We all bought our coach, FritzBoss, the SAME EXACT thing! Hahahha And THEN yesterday we all brought our gifts, and all three of us bought each other pretty much the same things! Too much, too much… lol I really think it was fate I ended up here training with these girls! Anyway, I am very thankful for my training partners because this journey would have been A LOT MORE DIFFICULT without them! When I have people to train with, I find I push myself a lot harder. On the days that I don't feel great, the workouts are a lot easier to get through with the girls there. When we workout, we are always encouraging one another, and it really makes a big difference. If someone is tired, we pull them along. These girls are real sweet when they push me along!!! But sometimes I just want someone to say, "come on Jos, don't wuss out…" Oh man, that would make me so mad and I would just GUN it. Hahaha
Anyway, if you have the OPPORTUNITY to train with someone else, do it! I am blessed to have Livia and Astrid because they are never competitive with me or each other, we all just PUSH and SUPPORT each other. They don't 2-step (run 2 steps ahead of you on a regular run..REALLY annoying!) And also, they never race in training. (It leads to no good, I promise. I saw a lot of girls in college try to race their runs and only ended up getting injured. It's good to push yourself of course, but not to the point of injuring yourself and to the point where training becomes "stupid," aka, to the point where you run yourself into the ground instead of into shape!) Anyway…We aren't competitive against each other, but the minute you stick us on a starting line and the gun goes off, it's bawwlls to the wawlllsss and we are competitive. Not against each other, but we see it as US against our competition. It is really cool to be in this kind of environment where we are all really competitive people, but we save that competitiveness for where it belongs, on the race course or on the track on race day, and not out on the workout trails or roads etc…

My stream of consciousness, sorry..I KNOW it is all over the place!!! Well, it is a Friday night and I am heading to bed soon….about 11pm…Some would say I was a loser going to bed early on a Friday night, others would say I was dedicated…I just say that I am doing what I need to do to be rested for tomorrow's training and also to recover from today's. I'd rather be a fast loser than a slow hardcore-partier!!!! I am not against partying or going out and having a good time with friends or anything! In fact, I love to dance!!! Just not in the middle of an important training cycle!!! I believe in balance, as you all know by now. I think it is important to go out and party and have a good time even during the season as long as your training comes first…if you are serious about it of course… If I go out, I just try to be home so I get plenty of rest and don't damage my training. Whatever it is, I try to get about 8-10 hours of sleep a night. This of course is different for everyone, but I found out early on that I need lots of sleep! But In between seasons I like to let loose, hang out, go out, and dance! I am young, I need to have some party fun too! Although, I say this and I haven't been out once since September 17th! Hahha That was at my boyfriend's sister's wedding, so I don't think that counts… Does going to the movies count as going out? Hahahha Oh man, I am a loser. Hahah But I have fun anyway!!! I have been traveling the world and meeting new people and that is my ultimate passion…well, besides running of course. But this way I get both!!! I am looking forward to traveling to Italy in February for a 6k cross country race!!!!!!!! But first I have a cross race in Lausanne, Switzerland on the 21st and I am looking forward to that as well! Bis bald! See you soon. Directly translated it means until soon…
