TATE TAYLOR | MEN'S 200M
Tate Taylor ran into a -0.9 headwind, from lane three, and crossed the line first. His time was 19.75 seconds. Letsile Tebogo, the reigning Olympic champion, was second in 19.93.
Taylor is 18 years old and just graduated from San Antonio Harlan. His outdoor 200m progression this season reads like a different kind of record: 20.05 at Tom Jones in April, 19.97 at the Lone Star Grand Prix in June to become the first high schooler ever under 20 seconds, 19.94 at the USATF U20 Championships two weeks ago, 19.75 on July 4. It is the 29th-fastest 200m in world history. Every one of his 200m marks this year (except one) is faster than any 200m Noah Lyles ran in high school.
He came to the sport as a freshman running, who opened with an 11.25. By his junior year he held the national 100m record at 9.92. This year he has broken the 200m record multiple times. He is committed to Texas Tech. Whether he ever races in college is an open question.
