2025 BC School Sports Provincial Championships Preview

The 2025 BC School Sports Provincial Championships are set to take place from June 5th to 7th at McLeod Stadium in Langley, BC. As the pinnacle event of the high school track and field season in British Columbia, hundreds of athletes will gather to compete for provincial titles and personal bests.
While there are many events and athletes to keep an eye on throughout the championships, here are just a few standout stories to watch in the upcoming days as the championships start tomorrow.
Junior Girls 100m / 200m & Senior Boys 100m / 200m
Grade 9 athlete Avionne Marie Dean of Pacific Academy is the athlete to watch in the Junior Girls sprints. She holds the top seed in the 100m with 12.10 seconds, which is the fastest seed time across all female divisions for the event. Dean is also the top seed in the 200m with a time of 24.64 seconds. She currently ranks first nationally in the U16 division for both events.
On the Senior Boys side, Kelowna Secondary's top sprinter, Ryan Lofstrom, commands attention with the fastest seed times. His seed in the 100m comes in as a time of 10.84 seconds. Only three athletes in the field are seeded under 11 seconds, including Derek Frimpong and Jackson Brhelle with times of 10.91 and 10.92 seconds, respectively. Lofstrom also comes in ranked first int he 200m, with a seed of 21.98 seconds- the only athlete seeded under 22 seconds. Nationally, he ranks 6th in the U20 100m and 7th in the 200m.
Senior Girls & Boys 800m
The Senior Girls 800m look to feature a tight race between Chloe Symon of Lord Byng, a University of Washington commit, and Rory O'Brien of Sutherland. Symon enters as the top seed with a time of 2:13.17, while O'Brien follows closely at 2:14.61. The two athletes recently finished 1-2 at the 2025 Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone Championships, promising an exciting rematch at provincials.
In the Senior Boys 800m, teammates from Penticton Secondary hold the top two seeds. Senior Maverik Rahkola leads with 1:57.70, followed by Grade 11 Miles Hayden at 1:58.75. Both athletes will look to push each other as they aim for podium finishes.
