Hedengren Demolishes National 2-Mile Record at Arcadia

---

At this point, do we just go ahead and crown Jane Hedengren the greatest high school distance runner of all time?

Record after record, the senior from Provo, Utah, continues to redefine what's possible. Just a month after rewriting the national record books in both the mile and 5,000 meters, Hedengren added another jaw-dropping performance-this time in the 2 mile.

Competing at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational on Saturday, April 12, Hedengren dominated the invitational 2 mile, crossing the line in 9:34.12. Her time shattered the previous outdoor high school record of 9:41.76, set by Allie Zealand in 2023, and also eclipsed Mary Cain's 2013 indoor mark of 9:38.68.

Right from the gun, the Timpview High School senior made it a one-woman show. She surged ahead of the pack within the first lap and opened up a 50-meter lead that only grew as the race went on.

Clicking off consistent laps between 70 and 73 seconds, Hedengren passed the mile in 4:46.47 and held steady through the second half, closing with a 72-second final lap. By the time she broke the tape, she was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the next closest runner.

A BYU commit, Hedengren has made the most of her senior season. After winning Nike Cross Nationals last fall with a course record, she hasn't slowed down. In February, she ran 9:37.50 for 3200 meters at the Simplot Games, making her the second-fastest indoor 2 miler in high school history at the time.

Then came March. At Nike Indoor Nationals, she set a U.S. U20 record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:13.26. Just three days later, she followed that up with a stunning solo effort in the mile, running 4:26.14 to break the high school national record.

Whether on grass, indoors, or under the lights in California, Jane Hedengren isn't just winning-she's rewriting history.
