VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Sub-23? Please.
Mia Brahe-Pedersen owned lane five on Friday during The VA Showcase's USATF 200m championship inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
The Lake Oswego (OR) senior, a finalist in the women's 100m at U.S. Outdoors last year, crossed the finish line in a new meet record of 22.92, which was just off her lifetime best of 22.89 from February of last year.
It was her second sub-23 indoor performance of her career.
To get there, she had arrived from Oregon, traveling over 3,000 miles.
As expected, Brahe-Pedersen immediately made up the stagger on Skyler Franklin of Montverde Academy (FL) before she came off the first turn.
Franklin finished second with a 24.77 and Sariah Doresca was third with a 25.36.
Brianna Selby, who would have been the fourth competitor in the race, did not start.
Earlier Friday morning, the Nike Indoor National champion set a new lifetime best in the 60m prelims where she went 7.28 to take the victory in the first heat.
