WATCH: Makeriah Harris Locks In, Clocks U.S. No. 1 60mH

Last season, best season.

Scotlandville's (LA) Makeriah Harris, a five-time individual Louisiana state indoor champion, opened her final indoor campaign this past weekend with a U.S. No. 1 effort in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds at the FasTrak Athletix High School Indoor Challenge in Houston, Texas.

That performance represents seventh-tenth of a second improvement from her debut last year and is among her best times to date.

Historically, the Louisiana State University signee has run 60mH times of 8.37, 8.46, 8.47, 8.50, 8.51 an 8.53.

She finished 2023 with the eighth-best 60mH time in the country and was only five-tenths of a second shy of the Louisiana state record of 8.32, last accomplished by Alia Armstrong in 2019.

Harris' opening signified her sights on that state record time, plus a potential claim on the nation's best performances.

Her career best is just inside the top 50 performances of all-time. Tonea Marshall owns the high school national record in the event with at time of 8.02.

What's more, that might only be the start of Harris' season. An exceptional athlete, she also competes in the 55m, 60m, 200m, 400m and 55mH.
