Jessica Jazwinski Versus Nicki Southerland in Kenosha

The top storyline to watch out for on the girls side of the Midwest region is the current US No. 10 ranked runner Jessica Jazwinski.

Last year, the Hart High School (MI) sophomore took fourth in the Midwest region, earned the distinction as the highest-placing underclassman. She held on strong at nationals and placed 11th overall, becoming an All-American.

Certainly, with her incredible junior season, Jazwinski might just have it in her to take home a new personal best this Saturday.

Having clocked a sub-17 for the second time in her career this season, she has her eyes on the future.

The junior's main competition, though, looks to be the Notre Dame commit Nicki Southerland. The senior placed sixth last November in the Midwest Regional, but did not race at nationals.

In her final year, Delta's Southerland may have more motivation to close the gap between Jazwinski and herself. Both athletes have run and won a considerable amount of races this season, Jazwinski going 13-for-14 and Southerland going 9-for-11.

However, while Jazwinski has dropped under 17 minutes this season, Southerland has yet to dip under that mark--however edging ever so closely in September at 17:01.
