Analysis: A year ago, Illinois cross country featured a burgeoning rivalry between Mt. Prospect and York. The two teams battled it out across the season before a meeting at the state championships, which saw Prospect edge York by 19 points. It happened again at NXR Midwest, by 21 points. And then again at NXN, with Prospect finishing in fifth, York following five places later in 10th.
Will that rivalry remain true in 2023? The answer should be yes. But on paper, York should have more firepower, with four returners back, including its No. 2 and 3 runners, Michaela Quinn and Katherine Klimek.
