At the World Championships in Budapest, Athing Mu, who earned the bronze medal in the 800m with a 1:56.61 season's best, discussed how she evolved as an athlete over the last year.

"This whole year has been a lot for me," Mu said. "I had a whole lot of things on my plate. The past two or three years have been a lot, lots of transitions, adjusting, and a lot of things happening at one time."

Through the adjustments and the challenges Mu faced, she has been in close communication with her coach Bobby Kersee to ensure she was mentally ready to step onto the line.

"Bobby knows what's going and he wanted to make sure my mental was fine," Mu said. "He knows obviously what everyone expects from me or what they see for me. He wanted to take that pressure off from me and let me do my thing. This sport is very long and we have many years ahead of us. Possibly taking the year off wouldn't be that big of a deal but he wanted to make sure I was okay before going out there and handling the world."
