Ashlin Mallon Learning More About Running, Family History

It may only be a matter of time before we start hearing the name Ashlin Mallon more often.

While the rising high school freshman out of Santa Rosa, California may only be a year-and-a-half into her running career, there's much more beneath the surface here.

That's because she's the daughter of Julia Stamps Mallon, a 1994 Foot Locker Nationals champion and three-time California state winner from Santa Rosa High School ('97).

In 1995, Stamps Mallon appeared on the cover of Runner's World magazine before she was even a high school senior.

Stamps Mallon went on to compete at Stanford University, where she would accumulate six All-American performances, while Ashlin's father Jon ran at Bucknell.

Ashlin says she found the sport in her own way a couple years back, and now she's full-throttle ahead.

This past week at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, the 14-year-old finished fifth in the girls 3K with a time of 10:43.99. She wore her mother's U.S. Trials singlet during the race.
