"Feelin Good about this one," reads the Instagram announcement.
Let's just say American Fork (UT) rising senior Daniel Simmons seems pretty pleased to make his college choice.
Simmons, the 2022 Gatorade Nationals Boys Cross Country Player Of The Year and a multi-time Utah state champion, announced his collegiate commitment to Brigham Young University on Monday afternoon via social media.
The No. 3 athlete on the latest MileSplit Class of 2024 boys recruiting rankings rose to national stardom on the cross country course and the track over the past year, taking second at Nike Cross Country Nationals and logging the third-fastest indoor 5,000m performance in U.S. high school history of 13:59.96 at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
During the 2023 outdoor season, Simmons continued his success with a U.S. top five all-time 8:34.14 3,200m performance at the Arcadia Invitational and a premiere 2-mile win at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in June.
Simmons led the class of 2024 in the 3,000m, 3,200m and 2-mile on the track this spring.
Prior to starring at American Fork, Simmons spent two years at Salmon High School in Idaho where he won a 3,200m state title and earned numerous other top-three placements at state championship meets.
It's a big pickup for the Cougars, who are coming off a third-place team finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Champions last fall and took 12th and 10th, respectively, at the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships.
The BYU men's team recently received the 2023 John McDonnell NCAA Division I Program Of The Year honor from the USTFCCCA, awarded each year to the most outstanding cross country/track and field program.
