Reese Vannerson, Houston Strake Jesuit

Vannerson cruised to two 6A state titles in the distance events on Saturday in record fashion.

First came a 8:49.10 state meet record and TX No. 2 all-time mark to win the 3,200m, upgrading from his silver medal in the event in 2022. That stellar performance also came after a significant weather delay bumped competition back by three hours.

Later that evening, Vannerson doubled back to take the 1,600m crown in 4:08.08, capping off a historic performance for the Houston Strake Jesuit senior.

Vannerson spoke with MileSplit following his 3,200m title and explained what that winning moment meant to him.

Ashton Torns, Austin Westlake

In the words of Torns, Westlake has a "W" as their logo for a reason.

And the senior carried on that winning Westlake tradition on Saturday with a 25-3 (+0.3) win in the 6A boys long jump. That also moved Torns, a University of Miami signee, to US No. 2 in the long jump this outdoor season.

Torns spoke about all that went into that winning performance afterward with MileSplit.

Lauren Lewis, Prosper

Lewis made history on Saturday evening in Austin.

An astonishing 51.45 400m effort to win yet another 6A title and better her own state record, along with a win in the 200m, made for quite the final high school state meet for Lewis.

The Prosper senior and future Texas Longhorn discussed her all-around performance with MileSplit.

Mckenzie Bailey, Georgetown

The 5A state cross country champion from the fall got it done yet again on the track.

Bailey, the senior out of Georgetown and a TCU signee, took control of a competitive girls 3,200m field on Friday and ran her way to the first track state title of her career in 10:39.23.

In her post race interview with MileSplit, Bailey talks about her win, as well as gives some self-reflection on her racing mindset.

Donovan Bradley, Humble Summer Creek

In two of the most competitive events at the entire UIL Championships -- the 110mH and 300mH -- Bradley came away with two silver medals.

And while Bradley was blessed to participate on the state stage and score important points in two events, he said he also knows this serves as an important learning experience. The Humble Summer Creek senior spoke with MileSplit after his two hurdles performances and explained how his state meet effort will help him moving forward into the national post season.

Michael Pinones, San Antonio East Central

A shot put state title was something Pinones had been striving for his entire high school career.

On Saturday, he finally earned that long-coveted state medal.

The Texas signee threw 65-11.50 in the final round to secure the 6A boys shot put title. Pinones explained to MileSplit just how much the moment meant to him and his supporters, as well as reflected on the journey it took to get to that championship stage.

Kevin Sanchez, Austin Vandegrift

For Austin Vandegrift senior Sanchez, the state championships represented a full-circle moment.

The 6A state cross country champion from the fall ended his state campaign this weekend with a runner-up finish in the 3,200m and a bronze medal in the 1,600m.

But for Sanchez, competing on the state stage was more about enjoying the moment and returning to racing than anything else, which he explained to MileSplit in his interview following the 1,600m.
