A Nebraska area high school track and field athlete, Hunter Palmer, died Friday following a practice, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

Palmer, 18, was a student-athlete at Wisner-Pilger High School and had won his last meet on May 4 with a clearance of 6 feet, 1 inch. He had also ran on the team's 4x400 relay.

Palmer was a multi-sport athlete and a talented football player who was committed to NAIA program Midland University in Nebraska.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Palmer family, friends, and the Wisner-Pilger community," said Jeff Jamrog, the head football coach at Midland University.
