Events: 100m & 200m

Coming from the small town of Thurmont, which is home to nearly 7,000 residents, Buffington made his name known during the indoor season as he rewrote the all-time list in the short sprints.

He produced times of 6.64 in the 60m to tie for No. 13 all-time and 20.71 in the 200m, which is the sixth-fastest performance run by a high schooler in history.

The Georgia signee is beginning to find his groove. He clocked a time of 10.31 (NWI) in his outdoor debut last weekend to win the Urbana Tri-Meet. So far this year, he's produced three performances under 10.50 and may have another opportunity this weekend to showcase his consistency.

This weekend he is entered in the 100m and 200m.

The freshman phenom won the indoor national title in a new class record of 46.67.

During the indoor season, Wilson showcased his range by competing in events ranging from the 55m through the 800m. This weekend, he's entered in the 200m-400m.

As an eighth-grader, he posted outdoor personal bests of 22.15 and 47.59. Since entering his high school season, he set a new personal best of 21.90 in the 200m.

The high school junior was ranked within the top 13 in the nation in the 60m, 200m and long jump this indoor season. One of the top returning sprinters this spring, she will make her outdoor debut here.

Lewis, who was the third-place finisher in the 60m at New Balance Nationals Indoor and won the long jump, is entered in the short sprints and the long jump.

Last spring, she set a lifetime best in the 100m with an 11.42 in the prelims of the PA Independent School Athletic Association (PAISAA) Championships. Her 200m and long jump bests occurred against elite athletes at the Pure Athletics Sprint Elite Meet.

She's produced a mark of 20-8.5w (+3.0) in the long jump.

With her experience, Lewis is a contender to sweep.

Alexander Risso, Montgomery Blair (MD)

Events: 800m

One of the up-and-coming stars in Maryland will have an opportunity to put together a strong opener.

Risso, who was the third-fastest boy at the MPSSAA Maryland State Indoor Championships in the 800m, will compete at the distance here.

This indoor season he set a new best of 1:57.81 to finish fourth in the Elite Championship race at adidas Track Nationals. He finished the year as the ninth-fastest boy in the state in this event.

Last year, as a sophomore, Risso broke through the two-minute barrier for the first time in his career when he ran a 1:58.85 best to qualify for the state championship. Since then, he's produced three sub-two-minute 800m performances.

Leah Stephens, Our Lady Of Good Counsel (MD)

One of the nation's top distance runners will focus on speed and strength as she is looking to pull off the 800m-3,200m double.

The FSU signee has been leaving her mark this season.

She's the Maryland private school cross country champion and finished seventh at Champs National Cross Country Championships.

Stephens became the fastest girl in the state from 1,500m through two miles this winter. The nation's second-fastest 3,200m runner this indoor season will be the heavy favorite in the distance races.

Last year she set a lifetime best of 2:18.56 to win the WCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This indoor season, she improved to 10:08.91 for 3,200m.

Last season, she posted performances of 41.70 in the 300mH and 58.27 in the 400mH, which helped her win a New Balance Nationals Outdoor title.

Even though she finished second at the Bullis Bulldog Invitational in the 100mH and 400mH last year, she will be a heavy favorite to win this time around.

Last year as a freshman, Cooper contested his skills at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, where he finished third in the freshman long jump competition with a 22-7 leap.

This mark was the fifth-best by a freshman in 2022.
