One of the country's top milers, Devan Kipyego, has entered the RunningLane Track Championships.

The St. Raphael Academy senior, an Iowa State signee who's coming off a runner-up finish in the mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor, has stamped his name into the famed event, which a year ago produced a 4-flat miler in Rocky Hansen, along with Lex Young's 4:01 and James Donahue's 4:02.

With two months to go until the RunningLane Track Championships on May 26-27, things are heating up.

Kipyego has officially run 3:44.17 for the 1,500m and 4:01.04 indoors, while he's clocked performances of 1:51.32 in the 800m, 3:50.08 in the 1,500m and 4:00.64 in the mile outdoors.

The Rhode Islander no doubt will add cache to the event.

Kipyego finished fourth in the mile at Brooks PR in June, coming just six-tenths of a second short of the sub-4 barrier.

One of the most accomplished athletes in Rhode Island history, Kipyego won four individual titles this winter. He owns an indoor state record in the 1,500m and is inching closer to D.J. Principe's all-time outdoor marks in the mile and 3K.

The RunningLane Track Championships will enter its third year in 2023 and, along with its traditional distances of the 800m, mile and 3,200m, will offer a 400m, the 2K steeplechase and a DMR.

Registration is currently open. Better yet, the Milton Frank Stadium track is currently being re-surfaced and will be brand new in May.
