In New Jersey at the Middlesex County Relays, the meet title came down to the concluding event -- the always-entertaining 4x400m.

The final relay proved to be exhilarating -- and then some -- on Saturday.

East Brunswick and South Brunswick entered the girls 4x400m tied in the team title race at 48 points, making the last event of the competition a battle for first.

The field strung out quickly over the first three legs, but that didn't stop East Brunswick's anchor Chloe Smith from making a run for a comeback.

Smith put her relay team -- and East Brunswick, for that matter -- on her back and closed hard in the final curve, sprinting around the leaders and into first place.

East Brunswick clocked a winning time of 4:18.14 -- less than two seconds ahead of South Brunswick in second -- to make for quite the walk-off moment.

The win gave East Brunswick the points needed over South Brunswick to win the overall meet title. The squad's 58 points beat out South Brunswick's final tally of 56.
