As we near postseason competition, we take a look at which athletes have had some of the most success at the 3-mile race this fall.
Looking at each grade individually, the freshmen class has produced many stars at the shorter of the cross country distance.
For the girls, it's Buchanan (CA) young phenom Kynzlee Buckley who leads the nation with her 16:19.60 3-mile performance at the Woodbridge Classic back in September. That holds strongly as the best performance among those in the class of 2026 so far this season, as Buckley has played a key role in Buchanan's success as the top-ranked girls teams in the country.
Looking at the freshmen boys, Caden Leonard of Carroll (TX) holds the top ranking with his 14:43.20 best, also from the Woodbridge Classic. Three boys have gone under 15 minutes for 3 miles so far this season -- Leonard, ML King's (CA) Maximo Zavaleta and Matilda Torres' (CA)...
