Luis Grijalva, a 2017 Armijo (CA) graduate, is coming off a strong 2022 season as he finished fourth at the World Outdoor Championships in the 5K with a 13:10.00 personal best while representing Guatemala.

"I couldn't believe it when I crossed the finish line in fourth place," Grijalva told MileSplit's Olivia Ekpone. "It was so unreal and I was so close to a medal. On that day, being in the top eight would be a great day for me. I surprised myself and I think I surprised a lot of people. I have a lot of respect and have a lot of pride to represent Guatemala because they've been supporting me as I started my running career."

The HOKA athlete took some time this weekend to visit and watch the competition at the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational.

New York holds a special place in his heart.

When his family first moved to the United States from Guatemala, they lived in The Bronx. Grijalva was proud to be able to give back to the community this weekend as he cheered on athletes and was able to connect with people from all over the country.
