- - -

School: Austin Vandegrift (TX)

Year: Senior, Class of 2023

2021-22 Notable Finishes: 11th at the Eastbay Cross Country Championships in 15:30.10; Fifth at the Woodbridge Classic in 14:06.00 for three miles; Ran a 5k personal best of 14:44.80 at the FEAST Patriot 19th Annual Invitational. Also won the 3,200m at RunningLane Track Championships in 8:50.00.

Analysis: He made his first appearance on the national stage last year as a junior, and now with just one year left running for Austin Vandegrift, Kevin Sanchez will look to capitalize on that key racing experience.

The highlight of his 2021 cross country season came on a lucrative trip to the Eastbay Cross Country Championships in December where he finished an impressive 11th-place in a competitive field. But that wasn't Sanchez's first time making a name for himself at a high profile meet that season. A top-five finish at the Woodbridge Classic last September - a placement that came with running the sixth-fastest three-mile time of 2021 of 14:06.00 - earned Sanchez national attention and put him up there with the likes of racers that have been in the spotlight for quite some time, namely the boys of Newbury Park. He also won a coveted Texas 6A state cross country title last November with his 14:53.40 performance.

Since those pivotal races at Eastbay, Woodbridge and states, Sanchez hasn't looked back.

He lined up against national competition yet again during the track season, this time coming away with a championship win and new personal best in the 3,200m at the RunningLane Track Championships with a time of 8:50.00. Sanchez also won his first individual Texas 6A state championships in the same event to add to his cross country individual title from the fall.

That's quite the resume-building junior year, and Sanchez will look to improve upon that growth in cross country for 2022.
