2021-22 Notable Finishes: 14th at RunningLane Cross Country Championships in 14:25.76 for 5k; First at the New Mexico State Cross Country Championships in 15:24.90; Third at Team Nationals Southwest Regional Meet with a time of 15:01.10.
Analysis: As a senior this year, Kuykendall enters fall competition as the seventh-fastest returner at the 5k distance with his best of 14:25.76 from the RunningLane Cross Country Championships. That earned him a very impressive 14th place finish and truly put him in the conversation last year as one of the nation's elite boys distance runners. Come 2022, Kuykendall will likely look for more sub-15:00 performances -- and he's shown that he has the capability of doing that.
Much of his success from cross country carried over to the shorter track distances come outdoor season. Kuykendall ended his season on the highest of notes with two personal bests at the RunningLane Track Championships -- 8:58.33 for fifth in the 3,200m and 4:20.04 in the full mile.
That notable end to track racing, combined with the summer fitness buildup, could make for the perfect momentum going into the fall for Kuykendall. We could potentially see Kuykendall have another top-15 finish at a national championship meet this fall, which makes him a solid member of our top 25 boys rankings.
