2021-22 Notable Finishes: Third at the OSAA 6A State Cross Country Championships in 15:08.10; Second at the Meriweather Cross Country Classic with a PR of 14:53.07. Also won the one mile at Nike Indoor Nationals in 4:11.42 and ran outdoor bests of 1:52.00 in the 800m, 4:06.34 for the mile and 8:58.37 for two mile.
Analysis: Shipsey comes into the season as a racer with great promise despite having only run a handful of cross country races during his high school career up to this point. Shipsey only ran in six cross country meets during 2021, but he ran sub-15:00 for 5k in half of those races. The Central Catholic (OR) star finished third at the Oregon 6A state meet, but his fastest performance came at the Meriweather Cross Country Classic where he ran 14:53.07 for 5k. That points to strong, consistent racing that could certainly play in Shipsey's favor in 2022.
Track season also saw Shipsey continue his trend of improvement, coming away from the indoor season as an individual national champion in the mile at Nike Indoor Nationals and clocking times of 1:52.00 for the 800m and 4:06.34 in the full mile to rank him as a top national distance talent during outdoor. Consistency seems to be key for Shipsey, and that could make for him to be a strong dark horse candidate come national championship racing in late fall.
