Sudden and drastic growth can often be seen in young athletes transitioning between athletic levels. 

That is specifically true when you talk about runners who have made the jump from the middle school to high school ranks. Over the last two years, athletes from all over the U.S. have made big progressions as they've aged up. 

Below, we sorted out a list of the top 10 sophomore returners for the 2022 cross country season. One among them, Jack Bowen, a rising sophomore at Chattanooga McCallie (TN), has improved by nearly 160 seconds at the 5,000 meter distance year-over-year.
