Flashback Friday: Last Year's National XC Girls Race

Seven of the fastest girls performances at the 5K in cross country history were achieved last year at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships.

And it was there, last December, where Natalie Cook officially arrived.

The Flower Mound (TX) senior rose to the occasion at John Hunt Park, where she proceeded to dominate in resounding fashion, crossing the finish line in a time of 16:03.93, which was just a shade off of the national all-time best of 15:58.42, last achieved by Jenna Hutchins in 2020.

In total, 20 girls broke the elusive 17-minute threshold and four went under 16:30, including the likes of Lily Cridge, Riley Stewart and Jenna Mulhern.

Niwot, which featured some of the best depth in the country, won the overall race with 112 points and a 17:22 average, dispatching Buchanan, the California state champions from Division I just a week prior.
