Shamar Heard Breaks Michigan State 400m Record

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Clinton Township Chippewa Falls (MI) sophomore Shamar Heard got his big moment on Saturday.

The Michigan native bided his time in the boys 17-18yo 400m final until the final 100 meters, as he outlegged Miami Hialeah Lakes' Mekhi Gammons down the stretch for a winning time of 46.02 seconds.

That performance was a new Michigan state record, surpassing Terrence Muex's time of 46.13 from last year. Heard is now one of only three Michigan athletes all-time to drop a 400m best under 46.50.
