And there you have it: This is the final release of the MileSplit50 top 50 boys subjective rankings for the outdoor season. What was different in 2022? We let each ranking breathe between the next, which meant that every release had at least three weeks of performances stacked upon the next one. That decision ultimately allowed us to differentiate between athletes and gave every new iteration a new infusion of talent. Our last release here reflects how the season finished. Some athletes who finished in the top 50 were early performers whose terrific work lasted the test of time. Others saw late surges that bookended careful starts. In the end, the decision to name this year's No. 1 athlete was arguably our toughest yet: Between Colin Sahlman's excellence over his distances, to Cade Flatt's downright ownership of the 800m, each athlete displayed what we want from all of our Athlete of the Years: A domination of their craft. Very little separated the two, but in the end ...we went with Flatt, whose historic success and consistency at the 800m was unprecedented. Below, we also list our honorable mention athletes for the 2022 season.
