The final seconds of the boys mile at the RunningLane Track Championships were nothing short of spectacular on Saturday night in Huntsville, Alabama.
With two hundred meters left and the chance at the elusive four-minute mile still in the picture, three high schoolers found themselves chasing history.
In the end, Christ School's Rocky Hansen, Newbury Park's Lex Young and Belmont School's James Donahue all had their opportunities.
But each would have to walk away just a hair shy of the mark. A lasting salvo? Hansen, the high school junior, would claim a national junior class record with his time of 4:00.76, passing Newbury Park's Leo Young by a hundredth of a second.
Lex Young's performance of 4:01.52 was good for second, while Donahue finished third in 4:02.98.
