Drastic improvement has been good to sophomores.

Long Beach Poly sophomore Xai Ricks currently leads the country with year-over-year improvement in the 400m, as he's chopped a full 3.29 seconds off his PR from last year. 

He's one of three boys to have achieved a three-second improvement in the 400m thus far this year. Meanwhile, in the girls field, a total of four girls have improved by at least four seconds, including national-leader Layden Jack of Scotlandville, a sophomore from Louisiana who has posted a 4.57-second improvement on her current PR of 55.8 seconds.

All four of the top girls in YOY growth have run at least 56.1 or faster.
