Virginia Beach, Virginia --- It was a fast first day at the 757 Showdown on Saturday. The highlight was the race between Sophia Gorriaran of Moses Brown (RI) and Kayla Davis of Run U XPress (NC) in the 500m.
Davis took control from the start and quickly separated herself from the rest of the field. Gorriaran responded halfway through the race and used her strength and closing speed to take the lead.
In Gorriaran's fifth indoor race of the season, she took the victory in 1:12.17 for a new personal best. Her performance moved her up to No. 11 on the all-time list.
Davis opened up her indoor season with a runner-up finish with a 1:15.57 and Lauren Leath finished third in 1:16.35.
