The amount of improvement for boys distance runners over the last two years has been downright silly.

Southern Regional's (NJ) Jackson Braddock, for example, has cut 65 seconds from his sophomore PR of 9:54.06 in the 3,200m to his senior campaign best of 8:48.64.

Greencastle-Antrim's Weber Long punched it down 66 seconds. Camas' Evan Jenkins lowered it by 68. A total of 56 boys ran under nine minutes in 2021 and improved their sophomore PRs by massive margins.

In the 1,600m, Gavin Sherry erased 16.92 seconds from his impressive sophomore best of 4:18.80. Nathan Mountain improved by 23, Nicholas Bendtsen lowered it by 28 and Braddock, again, obliterated his mark by 36 seconds.

We examined how distance runners improved based on full-season results from 2019 and 2021.
