Nathan Green was on a mission on Friday in Boise, Idaho, and he nearly came up with some incredible history.

The Borah (ID) High School senior and highly-touted University of Washington recruit clocked a new U.S. No. 1 mile time of 4:00.97 at the YMCA Invitational at 2,700 elevation, surpassing a major milestone as he entered into the top 20 performances at the distance all-time in high school history.

While Green's mark lands at No. 17 on the outdoor charts all-time, interestingly enough it's not Idaho's best performance overall: In 2016, Rocky Mountain's Michael Slagowski's entered into the sub-4 club, clocking a time of 3:59.53 at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays.

Green, MileSplit's No. 1 ranked recruit in the Class of 2021, owns an Idaho No. 2 1,600m performance of 4:07.86 and a No. 3 all-time effort in the 3,200m in 8:53.47.

Two weeks ago, he closed his regular-season high school career for Borah with two state championships in the 1,600m and 3,200m, which gave him five outdoor titles and eight wins overall across the track and field and cross country campaigns.

In 2019, Green ran the nation's No. 1 time among his sophomore class, hitting 4:06.20 on the clock. That effort was No. 5 all-time in the sophomore class.
